SAUSALITO, California, May 10, 2007 — The Sausalito Art Festival Foundation, presenter of the America's #1 Outdoor Fine Art Festival, is now accepting applications for its Fifth Annual Sausalito Art Festival Scholarship Competition.

A total of $10,000 will be awarded in the form of four scholarships of $2,500 each.  Applications must be post-marked by June 16th, 2007.  Any resident of the nine Bay Area counties pursuing an art related degree is eligible.  This includes continuing students in college, undergraduates, and graduate students.  The focus is on fine art students.

Mike Stone, President of the Sausalito Art Festival Foundation, says, "These annual scholarships, when paired with our cash awards for prize-winning Artists at the Labor Day event, are like bookends at the beginning and realization of a successful career."

To apply, applicants should review the Eligibility Information, then print the Scholarship Application Form and complete the requested information, all available at: www.sausalitoartfestival.org/scholarship.html.  Applicants are required to write two essays, one of which is the question, "How does art contribute to everyday life?"  Applicants need to attach the two essays as outlined, then either mail or fax submissions to the Festival Office.

The scholarships will be announced August 16, 2007 at the presentation of the Leonard Kaprielian Community Grants, a program of the Festival which supports local non-profits.  The winners and their families will also be invited to attend the Festival as Honored Guests.

The Sausalito Art Festival has grown to international prominence since its modest beginnings in 1952.  Through the Foundation it continues its long-standing mission of supporting the arts and community non-profits through grant programs, artist awards, scholarships, and the Sausalito Chamber of Commerce Community Service Programs.  The Festival donates and raises more than $200,000 for local Marin County organizations and charities each year.

The Sausalito Art Festival is held each year over Labor Day weekend in the beautiful art enclave of Sausalito, California – just north of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge.  The 2007 Festival is scheduled for September 1st, 2nd, & 3rd, and will be preceded by a Gala Premiere & Preview Reception on August 31st.  The Festival is an open-air event featuring beautiful sculpture and fine art, savory food and premium beverages, with marquee name entertainment on two stages.  It is held at Marinship Park with the idyllic setting of the Sausalito waterfront as the backdrop.  More than 1,000 highly acclaimed artists from around the world vie for the 270-juried positions available at the Festival.
